Comfort food at its best! This is a cool-weather dish that our guests ask for time and again!

  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 2 15 oz. cans tomato sauce
  • 2 15 oz. cans fire roasted diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoon seasoning salt
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 1/2 tablespoon black pepper
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
  • 1 cup shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar Cheese

In a Dutch oven, sauté ground beef over medium-high heat until partially cooked. Add garlic, onions, olive oil and continue cooking until meat is fully cooked.

Add water, broth, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, bay leaves, seasoning salt and pepper. Mix well.

Lower heat and cover. Cook for about 20 min, stirring occasionally. Add the macaroni and stir well. Return cover and cook for about 30 min more, until the macaroni is done.

Remove the bay leaves, and add cheeses. Stir until well combined. Serve immediately.

Cook time: 1 hour, 15 min.
Serves: 8.

You can vary the cheeses and play with the flavors of the goulash. Some cheese we tried include Spanish cheeses and different kinds of Cheddars.
