Traci and I have been spending a number of weekends this summer up in Enid. Her grandmother has been ill, and we have been going up there to help care for her and support her parents. The differences between Oklahoma City and Enid have been a little jarring, to say the least.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…"

First, I have to say that we both have no problem spending time with Traci’s family in Enid. Family will always come first.

And we have had a chance to spend a lot of time with Traci’s family. Sometimes it tries my patience, but overall it has been, uh, educational. Funny, sad, and entertaining. Just like any family.

That being said, there is a big difference between Enid and Oklahoma City. Obviously the pace of life is very different in each city. The size of each city is very different, too. But more importantly, the food options are extremely different!

Between the restaurants, grocery stores and specialty shops… the difference is glaring. Many times we have to buy some things and take them with us to Enid. That includes olive oils, breads and spices–stuff like that. Other times, we just have to accept that the upscale restaurants that we have come to love are just not to be found in Enid.

Seriously, though–the people of Enid are wonderful, just like they are in Oklahoma City. They have helped make a difficult time less difficult. Enid is a cool city, too. Just smaller and less urban than OKC.

We’re not sure how much longer we will be going up to Enid on such a regular basis. While we are, we will enjoy exploring Enid and spending time with Traci’s family. OK, and missing the pool. Seriously.
