This casserole was one of the first meals that Traci’s family made for me, and it is definitely one of our favorites. Just known as "family casserole," it is simple comfort food, and a great dish that is always a crowd-pleaser!

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 lb. Mild Italian sausage
  • 4 teaspoon sugar
  • 4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 8 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 2 x 15 oz. cans fire roasted diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 package egg noodles
  • 8 oz. sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 3 oz. package cream cheese
  • 6 green onions, bottom third, chopped
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

Preheat oven to 350F.

Brown ground beef and Italian sausage in a large skillet. Drain grease.

Add sugar, salt & pepper, garlic powder, bell pepper, tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Mix well, cover and simmer for 15 min over low heat.

Meanwhile, cook egg noodles according to directions on package. Drain.

Add sour cream, cream cheese and green onion bottoms to the noodles and mix well.

Pour noodle mixture into a greased 9×13 casserole dish. Top with the meat mixture. Add shredded cheese on top of meat. Finally, sprinkle parsley and paprika on top of cheese.
