Praline Sweet Potatoes
This dish is a favorite of ours during the holiday season.
Ingredients
- 3 lb. sweet potatoes
- 1/3 cup sugar
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- ¼ cup butter, melted
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
Praline Topping – 1/3 cup pecans, chopped – ¼ cup brown sugar, firmly packed – 2 tablespoons flour – 2 tablespoons butter, melted
How To Make
Scrub the sweet potatoes and cut into quarters.
Place sweet potatoes in a large saucepan with enough water to cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 20-25 min or until tender. Cool the potatoes slightly and then peel them.
Preheat oven to 325F.
In a medium bowl, mash warm sweet potatoes. Stir in sugar, nutmeg and ¼ cup butter.
In a small bowl, combine milk and egg. Add to sweet potato mixture and blend well. Place in an 1 ½ qt. casserole or baking dish.
In a small bowl, combine all of the praline topping ingredients. Blend well.
Sprinkle the topping ingredients over the sweet potatoes and bake for 1 hour at 325F or until slightly puffy.
Prep time: 20 min. Cook time: 1 hour 30 min. Serves: 8.
