Master Mix for TabyanInn Biscuits
Traci got this recipe for biscuits from her mother and grandmother. It makes it simple and quick to make biscuits—kind of like homemade Bisquick. Our guests love them.
Ingredients:
Mix: – 5 lb. flour – ¾ cup baking powder – 3 tablespoons salt – 1 tablespoon cream of tartar – ½ cup sugar – 2 lb. Crisco butter flavored shortening (4 cups)
Biscuits: – 3 cups mix – 2/3 cup milk
How To Make:
To make the mix: Cut the ingredients together until they are the consistency of cornmeal. Store in an airtight container or Ziplock back at room temperature.
To make the biscuits: Preheat the oven to 450F.
Place some wax paper on a counter or table and spread some flour on it. Combine the mix and the milk in a large bowl, and spread it out on the wax paper. Press the dough out with your fingers. It should be about ½-¾” thick.
Pour some vegetable oil on a cookie sheet. Cut the biscuits out using a small juice glass or cutter dipped in flour. Dip the biscuits in the oil and place evenly on the cookie sheet oil side up.
Bake at 450F for 10-12 min or until golden brown.
Prep time: 20 min. Cook time: 12 min. Serves: 4 (12 biscuits).
